Polygamy is NOT a religious Duty
by: Saqib

To Glenn,

Your daughter can marry any single Muslim who is major and capable to enter a civil contract.
She can marry any person who is unmarried or divorced. The polygamy in Islam is not more than a permission in abnormal situations. However, it is not a compulsion or religious duty for all Muslims to have more than two wives. Most of the Muslims prefer to have only one wife.

To be on a safer side your daughter may have a contract with her future husband on second marriage or even divorce. In Pakistan many noble families bound down the husbands to pay a huge price for second marriage or divorce. She may even get reserved the right of divorce to herself during the marriage contract.

Please keep in mind that Islamic marriage is a civil contract between two parties. When both parties agree to certain terms and conditions every court is bound to decree the contract unless both parties mutually decide to delete a condition.
